It’s safe to say popular producer/artist Will.i.am Black Eye Peas is “PRESSIN CHARGES” against fellow producer/artist Pharrell Williams.
According to Rolling Stone, Will takes issue with William’s new creative brand “i am OTHER” Will claims that he owns the copyright to the phrase “I AM”(
he didn’t try this with Beyoncé). He also alleges that Pharrell’s logo is “confusingly similar”
Will’s notice of opposition argues that Pharrell’s “i am OTHER” would be used on clothes and other items, similar to
goods that bear his own “I AM” logo. Will.i.am feels this will dilute his brand.
Lawyer for Pharrell and the “i am OTHER” brand have denied these claims. Pharrell issued the following statement:
I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me. I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions. I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do
Will.i.am reps could not be reached for comment.
I would have to side with Pharrell on this one. I really think this could have been handled without bringing lawyers and the court system into this.
Who knew that Will.i.am was selling clothes and merchandise like that? That memo must have missed my desk *yawns*
What do you all think?
