Album Review: ‘Rebellious Soul’-K. Michelle

Today is the day! Hood Mice Rejoice!

Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’s resident hood mouse(as I affectionately call her)K. Michelle’s new album ‘Rebellious Soul’ was released today.

Now I have always said that K. Michelle is very talented, but her hood mouse tendencies overshadow her great talent, because the girl can blow like a hooker on The Pointe. Now that we have that out the way let’s get to my thoughts on my album.

 “My Life” featuring Meek Mill

Not to be confused with MJB’s  version. This is sure to be a hood classic, hood mice are sure to be singing this at the top of their lungs. Meek Mill definitely compliments this song. At the end of the song there is a interlude, which I feel like should have been a whole song and not just and interlude. The song is just ok, not one I would have on repeat, but hood mice around the world will chant it at the top of their lungs.

I absolutely love this song, K shines on this song.

“I Don’t Like Me”

This song is a beautiful ballad on which K. sing about not liking herself and comparing herself to other women. As I stated in a previous blog post, this could explain some of her hood mouse tendencies on LLHATL. Great song

“Can’t Raise A Man”

Hood mice!! please take out your pens and pads class is in session! K. Michelle is dropping gems on this here track. As the title states, “You can’t raise a man!” You can’t change a man who doesn’t want to change! Please receive this! I like this song, it has a great message, ladies listen to this you might avoid a lot of heartache.

Now I will admit I did not like this song when I first heard it, but after V103ATL played it over and over again, as they do with most songs, I must say I like this song and first single. K. Michelle samples Debra Laws song, “Very Special”.

“Pay My Bills”

This song reminds me of an R. Kelly song from a female’s point of view. The song is ratchet, but I like it! With lines like “Ima f*ck you like I’m trying to pay bills” This give me just enough ratchetness! P*ssy pop on a hand stand K!

This song put me in the mindset of “Misty Blue” it is not a bad song, but not a standout for me. The song ends with hilarious interlude on which K sing about her coochie in her best opera voice. Very funny and playful.

“Ride Out”

On this song K sings about riding out on her boyfriend, another hood mice anthem I’m so sure. It’s just ok to me, nothing to rave about.

“Hate On Her”

This is one of my favorite tracks on the album, Michelle sings about issues with her ex boo’s current girlfriend. Definitely a must listen. I love this one right here!

“When I Get A Man”

This is another one of my favorite tracks, K sings about what she is going to do when she finally gets a man. Think the hood version of  “Cater 2U” by Destiny’s Child. Another great song.  This song ends with another interlude, which should have been a full song.

“A Mother’s Prayer”

On this song K. Michelle sings about her most important job, which is being a mother to her son. I love this song! She sings about her hopes and dreams for her son. I think it would have been good for K. Michelle to showcase her softer side on LLHATL, it would have provided a balance where her image is concerned. Beautiful song.

I have to say that K. Michelle far exceeded my expectations with this album. If she can rise above the foolishness and hood mice tendencies, I think K. Michelle is destined for greatness. There is no disputing the fact that the girl can sing!

Final Rating: 3/5
