Jermaine Dupri turns 41 today!
Jermaine Dupri Mauldin is the son of famed record executive and former president of Columbia Records, Michael Mauldin. Jermaine got his start as a dancer for 80’s hip hop group Whodini. Dupri discovered the 90’s rap duo Kris Kross in 1991. He later discovered the R&B group Xscape. He also is responsible for discovering Chicago rapper Da Brat. In 1993 Dupri started his own record label, So So Def Records.
If you listened to any music in the 90’s and early 2000’s chances are you heard Jermaine Dupri’s work. He has worked with Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Destiny’s Child, Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Monica, and countless others. Jermaine Dupri should be credited with taking Mariah Carey career off life support, with the release of the classic album The Emancipation of MiMi.
So So Def recently celebrated it’s 20th anniversary, my how the time flies!
