Album Review:Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse-Mariah Carey

After a string abysmal singles Mariah Carey finally released her 14th album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, and we were underwhelmed to say the least. There is honestly no need to do a song by song breakdown of this album because we couldn’t really find anything that resonated with us. The album has 18 tracks, 4 of which are songs scrapped from her now defunct Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Remix album. The album is said to be based on a drawing that Mariah did as child, and honestly that’s what the album sounds like. Mariah’s normal formula of adding a rapper to a song doesn’t work with guest appearances from Nas and Fabolous. The cover of the George Michael classic, One More Try, falls flat. The songs scrapped from the remix album could have been left on the cutting room floor. We actually like the original version of the songs from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, sometimes it is better to leave well enough alone!

After so many delays we were expecting something along the lines of The Emancipation of Mimi, but we clearly didn’t get that with this album. We did like Faded and Camouflage, but that is about it along the lines of songs that we would add to our playlist. Mariah is a legend in the music industry, and she has receipts for days, but putting out albums like upsets us. We would much rather listen to old Mariah classic than listen to the lackluster albums she has put out in recent years. We know “The Lambs” would beg to differ, and will fight tooth and nail for their Chanteuse, but thing is we call a thing a thing. If Queen Bey put out a terrible album, we would as Diamond/Lifetime members of the BeyHive call her on her BS, but that won’t happen so we aren’t worried about that at all. We won’t say that Mariah has lost it, but she definitely isn’t on her “A” game with this album. As always we encourage everyone to form their own opinions in general and where music is concerned, because everything ain’t for everybody, and this album is clearly not for us. If anyone has seen the “Emancipation of Mimi Mariah” please send her back to us, because we can’t with “New Mariah”
