[REVIEW] 2014 American Music Awards

The 2014 American Music Award came on last night on ABC. I will spare you the boredom of going into every performance and just tell you what I enjoyed. Before I get into that let me just say that my main issue with this award show and many others is the fact that this new crop of artists have absolutely no stage presence. Sure they sell albums and have fans swooning over their videos, but the true test of an artist is can you deliver in your live performance? The answer to that for most is no!

Many of the performances I watched last night were boring and lazy. I remember a time when I looked forward to awards shows, but now not so much. Now it is mainly to provide witty commentary and hope that they’re some good performances in between.

With that being said, I had three performances that I throughly enjoyed. The Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige came through wit a good fit(outfit), good heel-toe(shoes), and a rousing vocal. She sang the Sam Smith penned Therapy from her upcoming album The London Sessions. She gave me everything I needed! She even threw in a soul clap!

Jessie J, who sings her GOTDAMN throat out and face off came through and gave an exhilarating rendition of Bang Bang, with some assistance from Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. She brought the house down and probably could have been just as good without help. Great job Jessie!

JLo, came and shut shit down with her performance of Booty with assistance or lack there of from Iggy Azalea(Fergie for 2014). I am really not a fan of the song, but the choreography and production sold it for me. The thing I like about JLo is she always gives her all in live performance. All you new artists take notes, you could learn a few things.

Everything else was a snooze fest. Check out full list of winners HERE
