Thoughts On Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl LII Halftime Performance

Superbowl LII has come and gone! The Eagles won! Congratulations!  Janet Jackson let us know that she had better and more productive things to do with her time, and Justin Timberlake took the stage to perform at this year’s Pepsi Superbowl Halftime Show.

The performance started off in what looked to be a basement at the Eagle’s football stadium. Then Justin took us on a walk from the basement to the main stage. My first thought was, didn’t he do this at the VMA’s? But anyway he made it to the main stage and transitioned into his new single “Filthy” from the newly released Man of the Woods album. The song and the album did absolutely nothing for me. The sound was horrible, which wasn’t Justin’s fault, but someone should have been on top of this.

Justin then ran through a medley of his most famous songs all while switching between multiple stages located on the field. All the switching between stages was all too much for the time he was alotted. Maybe during a full-length concert, this could have worked, but it didn’t translate well during halftime.

Justin then took it upon himself to pay tribute to Prince since they were in Minneapolis, MN. It was rumored that Justin planned to use a hologram of Prince, but Sheila E got on the horn and killed that. He did project a video of Prince onto a sheet and turned the whole downtown area purple, which I enjoyed. The performance as a whole was lazy and uninspired and didn’t bring me any excitement. The Tennessee Kids (Justin’s Band) was excellent.

Justin could have done better with some guest appearances. Britney Spears is one name that comes to mind. He probably could have got Janet Jackson to perform, had he given her a public apology and got down on his hands and knees and begged. The performance and this new album is a no for me.

Xscape Takes Over Detroit[VIDEO]

Kinfolks! Xscape is back with a vengeance! Fresh off performances at the this year’s BET Awards and Essence Festival, the ladies have converged upon my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. The ladies don’t seem like they missed a beat during their long hiatus. They’ve essentially picked up where they left off. I am HERE for it! I can not wait until the Atlanta show because that is sure to be LIT.

Check out some videos from tonight’s show. Although I couldn’t be in the house it’s always good to have a friend in the house with their trusty iPhone.

[WATCH]Tamar Braxton Sing New Single ‘My Man’ at Revel’s Rhythm & Chew In Atlanta

She! Me! Her! AKA Slaymar AKA Tamar Braxton was in town last night singing her throat out at Revel’s Rhythm & Chew event last night, and although I couldn’t be there it’s always good to have a good friend in the building to send you some footage!

Estine ran through a few songs, but the highlight according to those in the audience was the new single ‘My Man’ which is based on her parents divorce and also from her soon to released 4th album. I can’t wait to see what she has to offer this time around. But until then check her out singing her throat out and not being bothered by #paperbacktoya

WATCH: Mary J. Blige Speaks On Divorce + Performs New Single ‘Thick Of It’ On ‘GMA'[VIDEO]

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige sat down with Robin Roberts on this morning’s episode of ‘Good Morning America’ to discuss her pending divorce from husband/manager Kendu Issacs

“My heart is OK. I’m hanging in there,” said Mary. “No one wants to go through this. This is hard. I’m hanging in there.”

We got some insight into what exactly caused the breakdown of the marriage.

“The breaking point was when I kept asking over and over and over again for respect and to be respected and it just seems like I was beating a dead horse and it seems like I was talking to a wall,” said Mary. “I just wasn’t getting it back. If I can’t get respect in the relationship, then I have to move on to save myself. That was the point where I’m like, I’m done. I just can’t do it any more.”

Respect is key in any relationship and it’s clear that Mary wasn’t getting that in her marriage and she decided it was time to end it. It’s amazing to see her strength during this rough time. The title of the new album is, ‘Strength of a Woman’. The album is should be released before year’s end. Mary is currently on tour with Maxwell for the ‘King & Queen’ Tour which I will be attending! [REVIEW]The Wiz Live

The Wiz live premiered on NBC last night to rave reviews, and I am here to give you my two cents. When I first heard about this project I was skeptical at first. The Wiz is a classic, and I normally not HERE for remakes of classics(movies, music, or TV shows etc.). But not one to rush to judgement, I decided to wait and see what they were cooking up. [Watch] Jill Scott Gives Breathtaking Perfomance of “Strange Fruit”

Kinfolk Jill Scott took my breath away with her heart wrenching rendition of Strange Fruit. The song was made popular by Billie Holiday, and sung in protest of the rampant lynchings of Black men in the south in the early 20the century. Scott performed the song at A&E’s Shining The Light concert special, which was created to address racial inequality and violence in America.

This song is still relevant today as we could just replace lynchings with the police killings of unarmed black men on our streets. Take a listen to Jill’s soul stirring performance below:

[VIDEO] Jazmine Sullivan Honors Kim Burrell At Essence Festival

Jazmine Sullivan has to be one of my favorite singers, she is right up there with Lalah Hathaway, Fantasia, and Kim Burrell. I could go on with the list, but I won’t. So what would a Kim Burrell tribute be without “The Runner” AKA Jazmine Sullivan?

I loved the tribute to Kim Burrell from Chrisette Michele, LeAndria Johnson, Lalah Hathway, and India.Arie, but Jazmine is my favorite. She sang Kim Burrell’s song Prodigal Son and seenelessly transitioned into her song Mona Lisa from her Reality Show album.

If any singer tells you that they haven’t been influenced by Kim Burrell they are a GOTDAMN lie check out Jazmine’s tribute below:

[VIDEOS] Jazmine Sullivan Reality Show Tour (Atlanta Show)

Yes I know….I am months late with this post, but hey better late than never! Jazmine Sullivan came back to Atlanta on April 7 for a second show of her Reality Show Tour. I attended both shows, and I must save both shows were amazing! Jordan Bratton opened the show, he is contemporary R&B singer. His opening was decent, but kind of went over my head because I was unfamiliar with his music, but he did his best to warm up the crowd for Jazmine.

Then Jazmine hit the stage in a figure hugging leather dress with fringe on the sleeves, she changed up her stage outfit from the previous concert, but she still looked phenomenal. Jazmine ran through new and old songs, She was in perfect voice and she had the audiences full attention. Jazmine’s voice just does something to my body! She gave me everything that I needed with this show. The only issue that I had with the concert is the fact that she didn’t perform Stanley from the new album, which happens to be one of my favorites!

The concert was spectacular! Reality Show was already an awesome album, but seeing it live made me love it even more. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Jazmine Sullivan live, you don’t know what you’re  missing! Check out some footage from the concert in no paticular order.

Destiny’s Child Reunite At 30th Annual Stellar Awards

When Jesus Say Yes Nobody Can Say No!

Bey, Kelly, & Michelle reunited in the name of The Father, The Son, & The Holy Spirit at the 30th annual Stellar Awards. The show was filmed last weekend in Las Vegas, and was televised on TVOne Easter Sunday. DC3 gave us three part harmony and Queen Bey gave us a signature hair toss while praise dancing. I even think Michelle may have caught the holy ghost, it was nothing like that time Fantasia caught the holy ghost at BET’s Celebration of gospel, but you get the idea.

It is always awesome to see the ladies reunite in song, It may be time to reunite and give us a reunion album and DC3 tour. Each lady has enough material to hold down a solo set and then come together for a group set. Maybe Papa Knowles can take a break  from fathering children and selling DC3 souvenirs and pull that together for us. Until then check out DC3 st their best below:
