Podcasts You Should Be Listening To: On 1 With A. Rye

Kinfolk! You know I always looking for new and interesting podcasts to get me through the day. When I am looking for podcasts they have to informative, entertaining, funny, and be forward thinking. The Loud Speakers Network never disappoints all with podcasts like The Read, Gettin Grown, and The Friend Zone. They have done it again with “On 1 With A. Rye” hosted by Angela Rye. If you’re not familiar with Angela Rye, you clearly have been under a rock. She is the #blackgirlmagic that Milly Rocks across the screen your favorite CNN political show. She tells it like it is, and give zero f*cks about what you or these good Caucasians think!

Check out of some of her highlights below:

Now you can see why I love her so much and why she needed her own Podcast. On the podcast, she addresses political and racial issues. She also sprinkles in a little pop culture for balance. If you’re looking for something new and interesting to listen to be sure to check out Angela Rye’s podcast on digital platforms. I listen to her from the podcast app from the Apple Store, but she’s available on many others as well.

Monday Movie Rewind: The Break Up(Dinner Scene)

Kinfolks! So I will be trying out new features on the website. One new feature will be “Monday Movie Rewind” where I will feature classic scenes from some of my favorite movies. This week’s scene is the famous dinner scene from ‘The Break Up‘, starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. This scene has me in tears each and every time I watch it! The lead singer of  ‘The Tone Rangers’ didn’t play wit y’all!

“Come, come with the kick drum…”

Watch this hilarious scene below:

Foxy Brown Releases Diss Track Aimed At Remy Ma

Kinfolk! My favorite female MC didn’t take too kindly to the jab Remy threw at her on “Shether”

“Talkin’ sh*t about me to a deaf b*tch,” “And usually I have sympathy for the impaired. But not when you hard of hearin’ from untreated gonorrhea.” ~Remy Ma

So she has responded with her own diss track titled “Breaks Over” over Jay-Z’s “Takeover” beat. Check out the snippet below:

I knew someone was going to bring up Remy’s miscarriage. Before Remy fans cry foul and try to act like she crossed the line, let’s remember Foxy’s hearing losss was a very traumatic and life changing event in her life. So since Remy took it there, then we can’t be mad Foxy went there. It’s all in the name of hip hop!

Could There Be An Xscape Reunion In The Works?[VIDEO]

Kinfolk! After watching the Xscape’s Unsung I thought a Xacape reunion was impossible because Kandi & Tamika Scott couldn’t patch things up! But here I am scrolling my Instagram feed and I see Tiny, Kandi, Ana Tamika Scott in the studio at V103 on the Big Tigger show!

Could a reunion be under the hood? I hope so. Xscape is one of my favorite R&B groups. They never had a bad album. I guess all miracles are possible! We’ll see what this means! If they know like I know they BETTER GET TO THE MONEY! Like BBD,SMV, and etc.

Remy Ma Unleashes Nicki Minaj Diss “SHETHER”

Kinfolk! Hot Damn H*e Here We Go Again!

Remy Ma released a scathing diss track “SHETHER” over Nas’s “Ether” track. I knew it was going to happen, when Nicki Minaj made the ill advised decision to go at Remy Ma on Gucci’s Mane’s “Make Love

Remy completely destroys Nicki Minaj on this track. She holds nothing back at all! She basically dismantles Nicki’s whole shit bullet point by bullet point! I am not sure who gassed Nicki to go at Remy, but this clearly wasn’t well thought out. I mean why would you even try it!?! There are even a few bars for Foxy Brown in there(listen for references to someone being deaf)

I’m not sure if Nicki can recover from this. Quoting sales figure and chart positions does not win a battle. Especially when Remy came through and completely aired her out! I’m talking complete devastation to the nation. I had to listen to song several times to unpack everything Remy said!

Lauryn Hill Wants You To Know: “I Don’t Show Up Late To Shows Because I Don’t Care”

So…Kinfolk if you haven’t heard already Lauryn Hill reportedly showed up to her Atlanta show 3 hours late. BIG SUPRISE! This is her normal MO and precisely why I didn’t spend my hard earned coins to go see her. Apparently she wanted you to hear her side of the story so she posted the following essay on her Facebook page

I don’t show up late to shows because I don’t care. And I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans. The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn’t easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others. I don’t have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible. For every performance that I’ve arrived to late, there have been countless others where I’ve performed in excess of two hours, beyond what I am contracted to do, pouring everything out on the stage.

Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road. Some days we are more successful than others re time. However, the vitality that is infused into the performances is always appreciated by the audiences, who may not know exactly what it took to accomplish. What hasn’t been touched upon by the media, I’m sure, are the hundreds of people who rushed the stage and stayed in excess of an hour after the show ended last night, just to connect.

Our challenge is to figure out the best way to accommodate the vitality, spontaneity, and spirit that make the performances worthwhile and special to begin with, while also making that experience available and accessible to others. If I didn’t Love and respect the art, I wouldn’t be doing this. The audience and I should have that in common.

My true audience knows emphatically that I care. It isn’t possible to affect people in any deep and meaningful way without putting sacrificial time in.

I have nothing but Love and appreciation for the fans in Atlanta, and regret not being able to give you a full show. We are figuring out a plan to make it up to you, and will announce details as soon as we have them.

*yawns and stretches* (notice there is no mention of refunds) Ms. Lauryn Hill(I want to put some respeck on your name, before I go in!) while I am keeping in mind that you’re an artist and your sensitive about your shit! The fact remains that concert tickets are not free and last I checked money does not grow on trees! I and countless others are sensitive about their coins! This whole excuse about going over at other shows is to the left of the GOTDAMN point! The fact remains you showed up late to your Atlanta show and countless other shows and gave your fans your ass to kiss. There is a simple to solution to all of this, like to hear it here it go: STOP TOURING! If you can’t show up on time! PERIOD POINT BLANK! The video below conveys my sentiment about your antics Ms. Lauryn

While I appreciated your essay, you really could have saved that bullshit. I am so glad I went with my first mind and didn’t purchase a ticket to your Atlanta show because I would be reciting the lyrics to Kash Doll’s song “BITCH RUN ME MY MONEY!” To you, LiveNation, and Ticketmaster! Sad to say I probably will never see Lauryn Hill live unless it’s free because I refuse to have my coins wasted! Ask yourself Ms. Lauryn Hill what would Beyoncé do?

[LISTEN]New Music-Lloyd

Kinfolk Lloyd is back with new music! The song is titled Tru and it’s hopefully from a new album. The “Get It Shawty” crooner has been absent from the music scene, which he addresses in the song. Apparently new year, new me applies here.

One thing I will say about Lloyd is he always manages to bounce back. I look forward to hearing new music from him, I’ve always enjoyed his music. Let’s hope he can get back out here and heat it up!

How Did I Tarnish Her Career? It’s Already Over! Says Future of Ciara’s Career

Kinfolk let me find out Navyadius Wilburn aka Future is our petty cousin with his claims in his counter suit against baby mama 10 million, Ciara. In his suit he is claiming to not have tarnished Ciara  career because get this folks, it’s already over! I am #crine because this sounds like something I would say in jest, but Future is dead ass serious!

All jokes asides these two need to really get on one accord and learn to co-parent! Because the child is the biggest loser in this is situation. Kinfolk be careful and really know who you lay down with so y’all don’t end up like these Ciara and Future!

[Listen]Throwback Thursday:No More(Baby I’ma Do Right)-3LW

Before The Real, Power, and Cheetah Girls there was 3LW. The group was comprised of Naturi Naughton, Adrienne Bailon, and Kiely Williams(some random girl was added when Naturi left the group) The group had 2 hit songs my favorite of the two is No More(Baby I’ma Do Right) and that is Throwback Thursday song.

The song was originally released on October 3, 2000 and was 3LW’s debut single. The remix featured Cam’ron. It’s good to see the Naturi(Power) and Adrienne(The Real) have gone on to do other things. Not sure what happened to Kiely Williams I think her having a viral video a few years ago, but other and than that I don’t know.  Check out the video below:

[Review] The Life of Pablo-Kanye West

Kanye West dropped his new album titled, The Life of Pablo(TLOP), exclusively on Tidal. Only after causing ruckus on Twitter with another one of his infamous rants(for publicity i’m sure). This time it was aimed at Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose, and their son Bash. He later recanted his Twitter rant, he and Wiz squashed their beef. Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian are now Instagram besties*yawns and stretches* I guess all is well in Hollyweird. TLOP has 18 tracks, and y’all already know how I feel about albums with that many tracks, it’s too damn many! However, I expect nothing less from House Motha Kanye, he is all about the dramatics of it all. If nothing else I look forward to amazing production and the samples.

In recent years Kanye has been more famous for his antics and terrible fashions. I was hoping and praying that he would get back to the music with this new album, and he did just that with TLOP.  The album opens with, Ultralight Beam featuring The Dream, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin, and Chance The Rapper. I knew as soon as I heard viral clip of a little girl praising the Lord little girl praising the Lord we were in for a treat. Between the choir and Kelly Price, this has to be one of my favorites on the album. Chance The Rapper also shines on this track. Famous features Rihanna and Swizz Beatz, and also includes one of the most inflammatory lines of the whole album:

“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, why? I made that bitch famous, I made that bitch famous…”

I can’t say I disagree with him on this, he didn’t completely make her, but you can’t deny that her star power sky rocketed after the whole VMA’s debacle. The Nina Simone sample makes this another one of my favorite tracks on the album. Feedback  gives me a flash back to the College Dropout album. Highlights is an uptempo that I enjoyed, and I need every bad b*tch up in Equinox, I need to know right now if you a freak or not? This song reminds me of “Good Life” Kanye.

The I Love Kanye freestyle is one of my favorite freestyles from the album, it reminds me  of Kanye before he went cray cray. Some of the other freestyles could have been left off. Christopher Maurice Brown shows us why we fell in love with him on Waves. This song is another one of my favorite tracks on the album the production is awesome. FML reminds me of “808 and Heartbreak” Kanye. I like the song because West reflects on some of his erratic behavior. The Weeknd’s voice normally wears me thin, but it fits on this song. On Real Friends I feel like Kanye hit the nail on the head regarding the current mindset of 30 somethings. The take home point of the song is, as we grow older the amount of people who are true friends decreases significantly. I really like this song because it speaks directly to me.

Wolves didn’t grab me, but I don’t hate it. 30 hours borrows J. Cole’s Note To Self format. West reflects on his rise to stardom and some of the pitfalls along way. This is song doubles as West’s thank you’s. No Parties In LA features Kendrick Lamar, and he makes me love the song. Facts & Fade I could have done without.

The Life of Pablo is everything that I was seeking and more. This album offers glimpses of Kanye West past. While it’s not a complete return to the “Old Kanye” he skillfully mixes in “New Kanye” with “Old Kanye”. The guest appearances, the production, and subject matter are all good on TLOP. While there are some missteps the album is solid. I would really be interested to see how this translates to the stage. TLOP is definitely worth a listen if you’re a Kanye West fan or not.
