[LISTEN] Song The Week: Raise The Bar- Tamar Braxton

The Song of the Week is Raise The Bar by She! Me! Her! AKA Slaymar AKA Tamar Braxton. Toni Braxton’s little is coming into her own and stepping outside of her older sister’s shadow. Tamar is out here in these street working like a Jamaican with 15 jobs. She is booked to capacity with The Real, Dancing With The Stars, reality television, singing, clothing line, marriage, and motherhood. It’s amazing that she found time to work on her latest album, Calling All Lover, released on October 2. The album was well worth the wait.

My favorite song from the album is Raise The Bar, and that is why it had to be the song of the week. It is reminiscent of Rocket by Beyonce, but Tamar put her stank on it. The vocal arrangement and production of this song is amazing, this should be the next single.

[LISTEN] Song of the Week: Get Right Back To My Baby-Vivian Green

The Song the Week is Get Right Back To My Baby by Vivian Green. The song samples Before I Let You Go by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. Normally I would be totally against sampling such a classic and scared song, but Vivian does an awesome job with this song. This song makes me want to get and dance!

The song is pulled from Vivian Green’s recently released album titled Vivid. It’s been a while since she has put out an album so this album and this song is welcomed offering from Vivian Green. Check out Get Right Back To My BabyΒ To My Baby below:

[Listen]Song of the Week: Back Up-Dej Loaf Featuring Big Sean

Now y’all know I have to show love for my fellow Detroiter’s musical endeavors. The Song of the Week is Back Up by Dej Loaf featuring Big Sean. This song is soooooo Detroit. The beat is infectious and Dej and Sean compliment each other something like the Detroit version of Bonnie & Clyde.

My favorite line is

He heard about, he was waiting on me at the door

This one gets heavy rotation. I love to see Detroit artists doing good great things. It’s interesting watching Dej’s progression. She’s the modern day Smiley. Be sure to take a listen to Dej’s EP #AndSeeThatsTheThing

[LISTEN]Song of the Week: Funny Live-Tori Kelly

Now if you were like everyone else, you were wondering who the white girl that participated in the Smokey Robinson tribute at this year’s BET Awards. Well her name is Tori Kelly and this young lady can sing her face off as you probably discovered during the tribute. Tori had my ear way before her debut album, Unbreakable Smile, dropped. I actually blogged about her a while back, HERE.

The Song of the Week is Funny-Live from her debut album. When I tell you Tori is singing on this song, that’s an understatement. I’ll take Tori over Ariana all day long! Check out the song/video below:

[LISTEN] Song of Week: Feeling Good- Ms. Lauryn Hill

The Song of Week is Feeling Good by Lauryn Hill. The song was originally performed by Nina Simone. The song is from Revisited: A Tribute To Nina Simone which was released to accompany the Netflix’s documentary. What Happened, Miss Simone? which chronicles Simone’s tumultuous life.

Lauryn Hill does an amazing job covering this Nina Simone classic. The thing I love about Lauryn Hill of present day is the fact that her voice isn’t perfect. The imperfections aren’t corrected in the studio, this gives the song a rawness and depth that can’t be duplicated. This song makes me miss Lauryn Hill, and makes me long for new music from her. Until she decides to give us some new music I guess this cover will have to do! Check it out below:

Wait…Wait…Whut!?!: Song of the Week: If I Don’t Have You-Tamar Braxton

Tamartians Rejoice!

She!Me! Her! AKA Tamar Braxton her Tamartian friend’s a surprise this pass week with a new song to titled, If I Don’t Have You. The song has a old school R&B feel to it, reminds of Wreckless Love by Alicia Keys.

The singer, talk show host, mother, and reality star is singing her entire face off on this song. I was getting worried about this new project as we haven’t heard anything from Tamar musically since the winter when she dropped Let Me Know featuring Future.

I am pleasantly surprised with this release and I think Vince has the album set-up under control. I am thinking the album will come out around the time that Tamar & Vince comes back for a new season on WeTV, being that Braxton Family Values is currently showing.

[LISTEN]Song of The Week: Stuck With Me-Tamia

GOTDAMMIT Tamia!!!! You didn’t have to do me like this! πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

The Song of the Week is Stuck With Me by Tamia. The song comes her upcoming album Love Life. After she gave us a Sandwich And A Soda, she came back with this masterpiece right here!

Tamia sings this in a way only she can! The song reminds me of Stanger In My House. This one here is on repeat. After these first two singles I can not wait to hear what this album will sound like. Mrs. Grant Hill you did the damn thing! Take a listen below:

[LISTEN]Wait…Wait…Whut!?!:Song of the Week: Say You Love Me-Jessie Ware

I am always HERE for great music and this week is no different. I forgot what television show I was watching when I first heard this song, but thanks to my Soundtracking app, I was able to find out the title and artist. Where oh where would I be without that app?

Anyway the Song of the Week is, Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware. When I heard the music and the lyrics to this song I was instantly sold! Jessie Ware doesn’t do vocal acrobatics, but she gives me what I need! Then add in a choir, hand claps, and a good church sway and I am definitely HERE for this! If you haven’t heard of Jessie Ware please give her album a listen. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Shout out to whomever chooses the soundtracks for television shows!

Wait…Wait…Whut!?!: Song of the Week: Alright-Kendrick Lamar

So the boy Kendrick Lamar dropped his second album, To Pimp A Butterfly, last week and I am still trying to take it all in, before I write my review. It’s a lot to digest, if you haven’t listened please do so!

I liked most of what I heard from the album but the song of the week had to be, Alright. I love the beat, the message, and K. Dot’s flow. Take a listen below and see if your agree!
