Here Are The Songs Sampled On Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’

Kinfolks! At 12:00 a.m. EST time my favorite rapper Jay-Z dropped his highly-anticipated 13th album, 4:44, exclusively on Tidal. I am still unpacking it all, but I am here to provide you with the samples that were used in the production of the album. One thing I miss about my childhood is being able to go the corner record store and purchase cassettes and cd’s. This allowed me to read the linear notes for every album that I purchased. I always wanted to know what songs my favorite artists sampled, and I enjoyed running to my mom’s vast collection of vinyl album to hear the songs sampled. That’s kind of nerdy, but hey it is what it is! I love music!

“Kill Jay-Z”

Contains a sample of the Alan Parson’s Project’s “Don’t Let It Show”

“The Story of “O.J”

Contains elements and excerpts from Nina Simone’s “Four Women” and also contains excerpts from Kool & The Gang’s “Kool’s Back Again’

Contains elements and excerpts from Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s in Need of Love Today” Which happens to be one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs!

“Caught Their Eyes”

Contains a sample of Nina Simone’s “Baltimore”

Contains a sample of Hannah Williams & The Affirmations’ “Late Nights and Heart Breaks”

“Family Feud”

Embodies portions of “Ha Ya (Eternal Life)” by The Clark Sister’s my favorite gospel group and fellow Detroit natives

Contains elements of Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” and also contains elements of Jacob’s “Tenement Yard”:

Contains a sample from the classic “Fu-Gee-La” and also indirectly samples the late Teena Marie’s “Oh la la laa”

“Marcy Me”

Contains elements of Quarteto 1111’s “odo O Mundo E Ninguém”

Contains samples and excerpts from Donny Hathaway’s “Someday We’ll All Be Free” and also embodies portions of “Glaciers of Ice” by Raekwon Featuring Ghostface Killah and Masta Killa

I am still unpacking all the gems that Jay-Z provided us with on this new album be on the lookout for my review of 4:44 which is coming soon.
