[Review] Summertime Shootout-Fabolous

Fabolous dropped his new mixtape, Summertime Shoutout(SS). and of course  I am HERE for it. Anytime Fab drops a mixtape it’s an event and we are always in for a treat. SS isn’t of the same caliber as the Soul Tape series, but it’s Fab so i’ll take it! The mixtape features Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Rich Homie Quan, Bryson Miller, The Weeknd. Fab embraces the new generation without sounding like that lame Uncle trying keep up with the younger generation.

My favorite tracks from the mixtape are: Real One, Doin It Well, Tell Ya Friends, and Trapline Bling. The Lauryn Hill sample on Real One along with Fab’s masterful wordplay and clips from Martin(sitcom) make Real One a solid track. Doin It Well samples the LL COOL J classic of the same title and features Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj, these three would make a good super-group. Tell Ya Friends samples The Weeknd’s song of the same title and he should probably consider adding Fab to the remix, because he only adds to an already good song. On Trapline Bling we get Fab’s rendition of Drake’s Hotline Bling, with a dope boy twist, I love it!

Fabolous has to be one of the most underrated MC’s out here. He consistently puts out solid material, and SS is no different. I am hoping he gives us another installment of Soul Tape, but this will hold me over until he makes a decision. This mixtape is worth a listen!

Final Rating: 3/5
